About Christine Edwards, Founder of Creating Excellence
I have experience across all aspects of apprenticeship delivery due to holding roles from Assessor to Operations and Quality Director. I am a Numeracy Specialist, an Advanced Learning Coach and hold Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills status.
I have supported adults in improving their Maths and English skills and witnessed the positive change this has had on their lives. I’ve worked with providers from all sectors to transition from Key Skills to Functional Skills as part of a government-funded initiative. I’ve also been involved in similar programmes to help providers improve the quality of their provision.
Christine’s background
After achieving average results at 16, I couldn’t wait to leave the education system behind me. Only when I became employed soon after leaving school did I see the benefits of ‘learning’, with day release to support my work-based training.
Seeing the bigger picture and the value of integrating qualifications with experience, my career progressed after gaining my NVQ Assessor Awards alongside a Level 3 NVQ in Customer Service. The more I got involved with qualifications related to my work, the more sense it made to me and the less value I saw in the subjects being taught in school.
That said, while working with an Independent Training Provider (ITP) some years later, I realised that not everyone understood the subjects I had been taught, such as Maths and English, as I did.
I also recognised the damaging impact on adults who lacked these essential life skills and the adverse effect it had on their lives. Moreover, I knew that these problems presented in post-16 Education were significant and that the ‘system’ wasn’t helping many young people become fully functioning and productive adults.
This was when I founded ‘Creating Excellence’ – to not only support learners to develop their Maths and English abilities and ensure every learning experience is as positive as possible but also collaborate with other educators and offer my services to improve stability, efficiency and quality, help build capacity and support growth.
