As expectations around progression, CEIAG and foundational skills increase, leaders need to model and champion best practice, not just manage process. This interactive session explores the human side of leadership; the mindset, behaviours and theory that underpin great leadership in the post-16 education sector. From emotional intelligence and leadership styles to Tuckman’s model of team development and the importance of creating psychologically safe cultures, this session is designed to provoke reflection and provide practical ideas to take back and implement into your organisation. We’ll explore how great leaders champion inclusion, progression and whole-organisation ownership of maths, English, digital skills, inclusion and CEIAG, creating space for others to grow and thrive. This active session is intended to help reflection, connection and a renewed sense of purpose, with practical actions to positively grow leadership impact.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes

This session will:

  1. Explore different leadership styles and theories and explore how to apply them in vocational settings
  2. Review the stages of team development and how to lead teams through challenge and growth
  3. Identify what makes a high-performing, inclusive culture and the leader’s role in shaping it
  4. Reflect on personal leadership approaches and develop a growth-focused action plan
  5. Recognise how inspirational leaders drive improvement in maths, English and digital skills development, alongside CEIAG delivery and the creation of an inclusive learning culture
